Thoughts While Shaving

Occasionally, my inquisitive mind leads me to take a look at some type of detail info that I would not normally even think of…such was the case over the past couple of days as I looked for recent changes in laws in North Carolina.  Doesn’t take long to get ‘bogged down’ and give up.

I discovered info related to the North Carolina tax rate for motor fuels and alternative fuels is 36.2 cents per gallon for the period of January 1, 2019 through December 31.

There are 47 pages of 2019 income tax withholding tables and instructions for employers.  I soon gave up.  So much for simplification of laws.  Guess it has always been so.

All that came about as I begin the process of gathering info for state and federal tax filings for 2018.  Been promised good news and hopeful.  Filing deadline is April 15, 2019.

2018-19 property taxes were due September 2018, penalty will be added if not paid by Monday, January 7, 2019.  Questions should be directed to Bladen County Tax Office.

With so much attention on the partial shutdown at the Federal level, what about the employees that, like many around this area, operate hand to mouth, now without a source of revenue, many with families….lost in a bureaucratic nightmare….created by our elected leaders.

In the End, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.  Martin Luther King, Jr.
