A group of Tar Heel and White Oak area residents are sponsoring a reverse raffle fund-raiser for one of their own this evening at the Tar Heel Fire Department.  Tickets are $50 for a couple, includes two steak meals and a grand prize of $500, (if my memory is not playing tricks).  For tickets or more info, call or text Leon Martin at 910-876-0591.  And, if you cannot attend but would like to make a donation, he can provide details.  The family receiving the assistance had substantial damage to their home during one of the hurricanes last year, and have little or no insurance.

Neighbors helping a neighbor…..We have heard so much news recently about a few who are accused of doing ‘bad things’ in the area, casting a dark shadow over all.  I suggest this type fund-raiser is what real, every day, down-to-earth, honest to goodness, rock solid Bladen County residents do….Good folks helping a neighbor in need.  Tickets are still available and will be at the door.  Leon can/will provide details.

NFL playoff action begins today.  4:35 p.m., Indianapolis Colts vs Houston on ESPN/ABC and at 8:15 p.m., the Seattle Seahawks play the Dallas Cowboys.  The game will be on Fox network.

Tomorrow (Sunday), LA Chargers vs Baltimore Ravens at 1:05 p.m. on CBS, and Philadelphia Eagles vs Chicago Bears at 4:40 p.m. on NBC.

College football,  Monday evening, 8 p.m., Alabama Crimson Tide vs Clemson Tigers for the 2018-19 NCAA Championship.  The game will be televised on ESPN.

Huge change in the weather today…Sunny, with a high near 60.  West wind 14 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Tonight, clear, with low around 43.  Northwest wind around 10 mph, with gust up to 16 mph.

Sunday, sunny with a high near 67 and northwest winds 5 to 8 mph.

Strong move on the New York Stock Exchange yesterday.

We need more good news, like our state and more especially our national leaders to act like grown-ups…Set a good example for adults  and children alike…Disagreement, debate, all OK, but treat others with respect….Do Unto Others As You Would Have Them Do To You….Frankly, I am tired of the name-calling….by all…..regardless of position…

Respect for the truth comes close to being the basis for all morality.  Frank Herbert

Every human being, of whatever origin, of whatever station, deserves respect.  We must each respect others even as we respect ourselves.  Ralph Waldo Emerson

Everyone should be respected as an individual, but no one idolized.  Albert Einstein
