A Pancake Supper is planned for Thursday, March 16, 2017, to benefit the Joe H. Bostic-Lacy T. West East Carolina University Scholarship Fund. The event will take place from 4:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Elizabethtown Presbyterian Church PAC building. Plates cost $8 each.

Hayes Petteway, one of the many organizers of the event, said plates will consist of pancakes, a meat, fruit and beverages. The funds will go to benefit the scholarship which is awarded to a graduating Bladen County high school senior who has been accepted and plans to attend East Carolina University.

Petteway said scholarship applications will be available at the event and will also be distributed soon to school guidance counselors.

Joe H. Bostic was a graduate of Elizabethtown High School and attended and graduated East Carolina University.  Petteway said Bostic was active with the Eas tBladen athletics and the youth at Elizabethtown Baptist Church.  He is the father of Kyle Bostic and Brett Bostic. Petteway said that Bostic passed away from injuries sustained in an automobile crash.

Lacy T. West was a graduate of ECU and was inducted into the ECU Sports Hall of Fame. He was a baseball player for ECU and was a member of the NAIA in 1961. He taught school in Bladen County before he started his own insurance business. He is the father of Allen West, Rhonda West and Karen Suggs. He passed away after an illness. Petteway siad the West was a big supporter of East Carolina University.
