GREENSBORO – East Bladen’s Patty Evers was named the head coach for the North Carolina girls team in the Carolinas All-Star Basketball Classic Saturday by the North Carolina Coaches Association.

“I am very humbled,” said Coach Evers. “It’s going to be a busy year.”

Evers’ teams have compiled a 482-120 record in her 22 years at East Bladen and Tar Heel including a 409-78 record in 17 seasons at East Bladen.

Under Evers direction the Lady Eagles have been to ten Eastern Regionals and reached the regional finals in seven of those years. “Great players make good coaches,” said Coach Evers.

The Jatoya Kemp-led 2007 East Bladen squad reached the Class 1-A State Championship game. The 2009, 2010 and 2011 Lady Eagles reached the State Title game for three consecutive seasons and were led by Jazmine Kemp and Courtney Melvin.

The 2016 East Bladen squad that featured current UNC-Wilmington player Lacey Suggs posted a 31-1 record and lost in the Eastern Regional Final. A year ago East Bladen finished 27-2 and lost in overtime in the third round of the Class 2A play-offs.

Laura Foster of T. C. Roberson will serve as Evers’ assistant coach for the North Carolina team that will play South Carolina in the Classic that is slated for Wilmington in March.
