The Paul R. Brown Leadership Academy will hold its first commencement ceremony on Saturday. This is the first graduating class in the Academy’s history.
PBLA is North Carolina’s only public charter military school. The historic graduation will be held in the Bladen Community College Auditorium on Saturday, June 4, at 10 a.m. Jack H. Albert Jr., D.Min., will deliver the commencement address.
Dr. Albert is the 16th president of St. John’s Northwestern Military Academy, in Delafield, Wisconsin. Dr. Albert has more than 30 years experience leading secondary military schools and has been president of St. John’s Northwestern since 2004.
Dr. Albert earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in history and social studies from Glenville State College, West Virginia, and a Master of Education in counseling degree from James Madison University, Harrisonburg, Virginia. He also holds a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies from Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, Virginia, and a Doctorate of Ministry for Educational Leadership Program at the Virginia Theological Seminary in Alexandra.
Dr. Albert began his professional life as a public school teacher and discovered his vocation for military school education in 1983, when he began teaching Bible studies part-time at Randolph-Macon Academy in Front Royal, Virginia. During his military school career, Dr. Albert served as Director of Guidance and Academic Dean at Randolph-Macon Academy, then Vice President and President of Massanutten Military Academy, in Woodstock, Virginia. Immediately prior to his appointment at SJNMA, Dr. Albert led St. John’s Military School in Salina, Kansas, as President.
Currently, Dr. Albert serves on the Board of Directors of AMCSUS (The Association of Military Colleges and Schools of the United States) having served as president of that organization for two years. He served on the Board of Governors of the Qatar Leadership Academy, a school in Doha, Qatar, established with guidance and consultation from St. John’s Northwestern Military Academy. He is the author of several articles that include: Don’t Call us a Reform School: We are A School that Reforms, The three P’s of Fundraising, The Nehemiah Approach to Fundraising, Why Heads of Independent Schools Leave. He also published Leadership Ideas – Initiatives in our Military Schools and Academies for the 2008-09 edition of The Educational Register.
Dr. Albert and his wife, Betty, have two adult children, both of whom were graduates of military academies.
