Mr. Phillip Long Watson, 58, of Ft. Walton Beach, Florida, formerly of Fayetteville, NC passed away on Tuesday, July 17, 2018.

He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Arthur and Juanita Watson.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Myra Watson of the home; a daughter, Melissa Britt-Kennedy and husband, Jesse of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla.; two brothers, William A. “Bill” Watson and wife, Carolyn of White Lake and Robert “Bobby” Watson of Charlotte; a granddaughter, Emma Kennedy of Ft. Walton Beach; a special great-niece, Ayana McLean of Ft. Walton Beach; nephew, Donovan Watson of Washington, DC; and niece, Kerry Watson of White Lake.

Phil was a Fayetteville native, raised in Rockfish; he graduated from Wilmington Hoggard High School in 1978 and also attended Elizabethtown Schools.

He was a member of the Fayetteville Police Department from 1982-2005. Phil also work with the district attorney office in Fayetteville from 2007-2016.

A member of Carroll Memorial Baptist Church, he served as a deacon for many years.

He was an avid golfer and sports fan.

Phil and Myra moved to Ft. Walton Beach, FL to enjoy retirement, their family and the water.

A devoted husband, loving father and a great friend. Phil’s motto was “God, Family, Friends and Country”.
The family will receive friends from 10:45 am to 11:45 am Monday, July 23, 2018 in Carroll Memorial Baptist Church with a memorial service immediately following at 12 pm (noon) at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the National Alopecia Areata Foundation 65 Mitchell Boulevard, Suite 200-B San Rafael, CA 94903 (www.naaf.org) in honor of Ayana McLean and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105 (www.stjude.org).
