Piedmont Natural Gas has begun performing maintenance on a pipeline near 9100 Center Road in Bladenboro, the company announced.
The operations will include the use of a flare stack (a large vertical pipe), which could produce a loud noise and result in a tall flame being visible to nearby neighborhoods and businesses, the company said. People in the area also may notice a whistling sound or the smell of natural gas, according to Piedmont.
The work, which the company said is routine maintenance, will continue through April 2, barring any weather-related events.
