LUMBERTON – Congressman Robert Pittenger (NC-09) is currently touring flood damage in Robeson, Bladen, and Cumberland counties following Hurricane Matthew.

This morning, Congressman Pittenger visited evacuees at a Red Cross shelter at South Robeson High School, spoke with Lumberton residents at a water distribution station on Farringdom St., and met with Mayor Bruce Davis and other leaders at Lumberton City Hall.

“Our drive from South Robeson to Farringdom took more than two hours.  The damage to I-95 and the other major roads underwater reflect the vast destruction suffered by Lumberton and the dislocation of thousands of people,” said Congressman Pittenger.  “This disaster will be felt for many years, and my team and I are committed to helping the people of Robeson, Cumberland, and Bladen navigate the federal bureaucracy to receive appropriate assistance.

“Thank you to the incredibly brave police officers, firefighters, and neighborhood volunteers who continue working non-stop on rescues.”

Congressman Pittenger also toured flood damage in Bladen County, including meeting with Bladen County Sheriff James McVicker, Elizabethtown Mayor Sylvia Campbell, and Elizabethtown Police Chief Tony Parrish.

Congressman Pittenger is currently en route to view flood damage in Fayetteville and meet with Cumberland County Sheriff Moose Butler
