Spread the love

SE-Carolina-CrossroadsThere is a mission underway in Bladen County to change the lives of folks who suffer from drug addiction. If you travel Susie Sandhill Road in the Ammon community, you eventually come to the camp called Southeastern Carolina Crossroads.  The camp once housed the Eckerd Camp E-Tik-Etu.

The Southeastern Carolina Crossroads program serves men who are battling addiction. The program operates strictly off of donations and the generosity of area churches and businesses. Rev. Larry Hayes said that 157 men have completed the Southeastern Carolina Crossroads program with a 64 percent success rate.

Rev. Hayes said, “This program is making a difference in the lives of those who have sought treatment there. If we can get more of our parents who need help to go there, I think it would make a difference in the lives of our young people.”

A group of citizens in Bladen County met on Tuesday at the Bladen Baptist Association building in Elizabethtown to brainstorm ideas for a fundraiser  with 100 percent of the proceeds going to benefit the Southeastern Carolina Crossroads program.  They set their goals high. The group plans to raise $25,000 or more.

The group will conduct a live auction to be held at White Lake that will include food and drinks for purchase in October. In conjunction with the live auction, there will also be a bake sale. There was also a suggestion for a barbecue plate sale to take place in Bladenboro. A date and location will be announced for the Bladenboro event.

The group is currently accepting donations for the live auction. Any and all items are appreciated and pick up can be arranged.  Donations of baked goods such as cakes for the bake sale will also be appreciated.

To donate items or baked goods, call 910-876-5830.

The next meeting will take place on Tuesday, July 26, at 5 p.m. at the Elizabethtown Presbyterian Church.
