The weekend forecast is looking bright, warm and sunny for the Planters Day weekend. The festivities kicked off at the Graham Farm located on Old Fayetteville Road in the Ammon community. Gates open at 9 a.m. and the event continues Saturday.

On Friday vendors were setting up their wares while live entertainment took place on the stage. Classic cars and antique tools and tractor were on display. A museum is now open that allows visitors to view all manner of tools that were used on the farm.

Jessie Bullard, the owner of a horseless carriage, said he comes to Planters Day each year. “I just like to see this type of stuff. We go to about 8 or 10 of these shows a year,” said Bullard.

Wilbur Heath of Kinston was displaying his 1927 Ford Model T. He joined friends Bullard, Richard Capell, Douglas Wood and Craig Murphy for the weekend. They sat and shared stories about other shows they had attended together as well as sharing their knowledge.

Inside the museum a video with pictures from prior Planters Day festivities was playing while a table had a display of tagged items from yesteryear. People could test their memory guessing at what the items were and an answer sheet was available where one could check to see if they were correct.

Hit and miss engines chugged away and a portable saw mill was offering demonstrations. Vendors offered all manner of items for sale from make up to oil and kerosene lamps.
Food and drinks are available for purchase throughout the event each day.
