Politicians Appreication DinnerHave you ever wanted to thank your representative for their service or an ask them a question? Here’s your chance when the 8th Politician’s Appreciation Day on Saturday at 5 p.m. The event is free and the public is invited to attend.

Cindy Brisson said that they can confirm US Congressman Robert Pittinger, Judge Marion Warren, and NC Rep. William Brisson to name a few of the representatives you can expect to meet.

“It is actually to show the people that they (political representatives) appreciate them,” said Cindy Brisson of the event.

She said folks can expect to hear from the politicians in attendance and learn more about their platform. Brisson added that there will also be time following the meal for folks to speak one-on-one with their elected officials.

In addition to the opportunity to meet your elected officials, there will also be an auction of the 1881 New Orleans mint Morgan Silver Dollar that settled the race for Clarkton Mayor between incumbent Mayor Lawrence McDougald and challenger Jimmy Hudson. The proceeds of the auction will be given to a local charity.

After the vote canvass following the November municipal elections, the race between McDougald and Hudson was knotted at 25 votes each. In North Carolina, in the event of tie, the tie can be broken by a “lot.”

It was a Board of Elections decision on how to break the tie between McDouglad and Hudson and Board Chairman Bobby Ludlum said he preferred a coin toss. It was decided that heads would favor Hudson and tails would favor McDouglad. the coin landed eagle side up meaning McDougald was declared the winner.
