Raleigh – North Carolina Democratic Party Chairman Wayne Goodwin and African American Caucus President Felita Donnell issued the following statement in response to the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis earlier this week.

“Whether in Minnesota, Georgia or North Carolina, the inescapable truth we must face is that black lives continue to be snuffed out through unnecessary acts of violence and aggression. The killings of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor and Tony McDade are the most recent tragic reminders of the institutional racism that continues to plague our criminal justice system and our society at large, and we must honestly recognize the immense work we must do to rid ourselves of it.

“Only through sustained activism and progress will we be able to heal these deep wounds and build a country where all people are treated as equal. As long as black men and women are unsafe in our communities, the NCDP will continue to stand alongside them in the struggle for justice.”
