RALEIGH – The North Carolina Democratic Party announced an expanded communications team heading into the 2020 general election, hiring Austin Cook as its Communications Director  and promoting Robert Howard to Senior Communications Advisor.

“We’re excited to bring Austin Cook on board as we prepare for the most important election in recent memory,” said NCDP Executive Director Meredith Cuomo. “North Carolina will take center stage in November as a key battleground state for Democrats up and down the ballot. Austin brings valuable political and communications experience to our team that will bolster our efforts to turn this state blue in the fall.”

Cook joins the NCDP from U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar’s presidential campaign, where he served in a number of communications roles including as Iowa Press Secretary, Nevada Press Secretary and North Carolina Communications Director. A Wake Forest University alumnus, he previously worked in the strategic communications division of The Glover Park Group in Washington, D.C.

“I’m thrilled for the chance to return to North Carolina to help our party gear up for this crucial election cycle,” said Cook. “I look forward to working with Chairman Goodwin, Meredith and the full team at the NCDP to hold President Trump accountable for his broken promises to North Carolinians and to support our groundbreaking slate of candidates across the Tar Heel State.”
