The Bladen Improvement Political Action Committee has been busy this primary election season distributing their famous sample ballot. On the sample ballot candidates are marked on the sample as an example of how someone could vote.

On the sample ballot the PAC has marked candidates for the Presidency all the way to the Bladen County Board of Commissioners. During this election the PAC has marked on their sample ballot the following candidates: Bladen County-Wide Candidate G. Michael Cogdell, NC Governor Roy Copper, NC House of Representatives District 22, Albert D. Kirby, Jr., North Carolina Tresurer Dimple Ajmera, NC Suprintendent of Public Instruction, Keith A. Sutton, NC Commissioner of Agriculture Walter Smith, NC Auditor Beth A. Wood, NC Lieutenant Governor, Allen Thomas US House of Representative Candidate, Mark Judson, US Senant Canddiate, Erica D. Smith, and Presidential Candidate, Joseph R. Biden.

The North Carolina Board of Election oversees PACs and has donation and reporting requirements. The North Carolina State Board of Elections is required to evaluate the maximum contribution limitation every two years pursuant to 163-278.13 (a1). The maximum contribution limitation as of January 1, 2019 is $5,400 and remains in effect through December 31, 2020.

First, to explain what a Polictical Action Committee is we turned to Encyclopedia Britannica which explains a Political action committee (PAC), in U.S. politics, is an organization whose purpose is to raise and distribute campaign funds to candidates seeking political office. PACs are generally formed by corporations, labor unions, trade associations, or other organizations or individuals and channel the voluntary contributions they raise to candidates for elective offices, primarily in the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate. PACs may also spend their funds on what are termed independent expenditures—defined in law as a message “expressly advocating the election or defeat of a clearly identified candidate…”
