Public meeting will be July 26

NC DOTSPRING LAKE – The N.C. Department of Transportation is seeking public feedback on its proposal to widen and extend a Cumberland County road to relieve traffic congestion at Fort Bragg.

NCDOT will host an informal open house from 4 to 7 p.m. July 26 at Spring Lake Town Hall, 300 Ruth Street. The open house will give people an opportunity to see preliminary design maps, ask questions and fill out comment cards about the project.

Fort Bragg plans to build an additional gate, called an access control point, to reduce congestion from vehicles entering the military reservation. The new gate will be on Reilly Road near Odell Road, which NCDOT is proposing to extend and widen. By extending and widening Odell Road to serve Fort Bragg’s new gate, NCDOT anticipates congestion on Bragg Boulevard will be reduced during commuter times.

Under NCDOT’s proposal, Odell Road would be extended from North Bragg Boulevard (N.C. 24/87) in Spring Lake to Reilly Road on Fort Bragg. The department would add lanes to some places of Odell Road to make the entire road four travel lanes. NCDOT also plans to install a raised median along the entire road as an added safety measure. Construction is scheduled to start in 2020.

Maps and other information about the proposal can be viewed on this NCDOT website when the information becomes available.

The department will accept comments on the proposal through Aug. 9. They may be sent to Kim Gillespie, a project manager at NCDOT, at 919-707-6023; klgillespie@ncdot.gov; or Central Project Delivery, 1595 Mail Service Center, Raleigh, N.C., 27699-1595.

NCDOT will provide auxiliary aids and services under the Americans with Disabilities Act for disabled persons who wish to participate in this meeting. Anyone requiring special services should contact Tony Gallagher at 919-707-6069 or magallagher@ncdot.gov so that arrangements can be made.
