West Bladen grad Rahu Purdie played a key role in two Lander Peach Belt Conference basketball victories this week.

Wednesday night Purdie fired in 20 points and dished out 7 assists in the Bearcats 85-76 victory at USC-Aiken. The sophmore guard connected on 7 of 14 shots from the field and made all 4 of his free throw attempts.

In the first half Purdie drained a 3-point shot and another 2-point shot then sank 2 free throws, but USC-Aiken still led 45-42 at halftime.

Purdie drilled a 3-point shot with 18:28 left to play that put the Bearcats ahead 48-45. Two more Purdie jumpers kept Lander even at 60-60. Another Purdie jumper with 8:18 left put the Bearcats ahead to stay at 66-64.

Purdie canned another jumper with 4:23 left that stretched the Bearcat lead to 73-66 and hit 2 free throws in the closing seconds.

Saturday Purdie scored 10 points, grabbed a game-high 8 rebounds and dished out 4 assists in Lander’s 80-67 victory over Francis Marion.

Purdie pumped in one jump shot in the first half as Lander built a 44-29 halftime lead. The White Oak native bombed in a pair of 3-point shots and added a lay-up in the second half.

The Bearcats improved to 4-6 in league play and 7-12 overall. Lander will host Augusta Wednesday at 7:30.
