Rahu Purdie LanderWhite Oak native Rahu Purdie lit up the scoreboard with 19 points Saturday as his Lander Bearcats defeated Flagler 85-81 in Peach Belt Conference basketball action in St. Augustine, FL.

Purdie sank all 8 of his free throw attempts, made his only 2-point shot and connected on 3 of 5 three-point shots. The 5-9 guard also grabbed 2 rebounds.

The West Bladen grad drained a 3-point shot, then popped in another jumper to tie the game 17-17 with 11:25 left in the first half.

Purdie nailed back-to-back 3-point shots in the final minute of the half as the Bearcats opened up a 43-33 halftime lead.

Two free throws by Purdie stretched the Lander lead to 56-45 with 14:45 left in the game. At the 7:23 mark the freshman guard made 2 more foul shots to keep the margin at 67-58.

Purdie cashed in 2 more free throws with 1:09 left that maintained a 79-70 lead. With 35 seconds on the clock, Purdie hit 2 more foul shots for an 84-77 lead.

The Bearcats remained atop the Peach Belt’s East Division with an 11-5 conference record. Lander is 17-8 overall and will host Armstrong State Wednesday night at 7:30.
