BRISTOL, TN – West Bladen grad Rahu Purdie pumped in 12 points and dished out 5 assists Saturday as his Lander Bearcats claimed their second win of the season with an 87-83 men’s basketball victory over King University.
Purdie drained all four of his 3-point shots in the game, grabbed 5 rebounds and was credited with one steal.
The Tar Heel native fired in 2 of his 3-pointers in the first 5 minutes of the game to keep the Bearcats within 13-10. Another 3-ball from Purdie vaulted Lander in front 42-41with 1:44 left in the first half.
Purdie threw in his fourth 3-pointer at the 15:48 mark in the second half to trim King’s lead to 56-55. A 17-8 closing run pulled out the victory for Lander.
The Bearcats, now 2-1, will host Fayetteville State Friday at 7:30 in their own Finis Horne Holiday Classic.
