ST AUGUSTINE, FL – White Oak native Rahu Purdie fired in 17 points to lead his Lander Bearcats to their fourth straight victory 73-56 over Flagler Saturday in Peach Belt Conference basketball action.

Purdie connected on 6 of 11 shots from the floor and sank all 4 of his foul shots. The sophmore guard grabbed 4 rebounds, dished out 4 assists and had one steal.

The West Bladen grad raced for a lay-up then popped in a jumper to keep the Bearcats even 8-8 early in the first half.

Purdie stole the ball and sprinted for a lay-up at the 1:54 mark then beat the halftime buzzer with another jumper that gave the Bearcats a 42-28 lead.

The 5-9 guard added a lay-up then cashed in 2 free throws for a 47-35 lead with 13:20 remaining. Purdie drained a 3-point shot for a 62-45 lead with 6:52 left then made 2 free throws at the 4:43 mark to keep the Bearcat lead at 65-51.

Wednesday night the Bearcats upset Peach Belt leader Augusta 76-65 at Lander. Purdie pumped in 13 points on 5 of 8 shooting and made both of his 3-point attempts. He also distributed 3 assists and had 2 rebounds and a steal.

Purdie pumped in a jump shot and drilled in a 3-point shot in the first half as the Bearcats built a 37-28 halftime lead.

Two minutes into the second half, Purdie knocked down a jumper for a 44-31 Lander lead. Thirteen minutes later he nailed another jumper then buried a 3-point shot for a 70-54 Lander lead. Purdie tacked on a free throw in the closing seconds.

The Bearcats, now 6-6 in the PBC and 9-12 overall,  host UNC-Pembroke Monday night at 7:30.
