GREENWOOD, SC – White Oak native Rahu Purdie pumped in 17 points Wednesday night as his Lander Bearcats defeated Flagler College 73-58 in Peach Belt Conference  basketball action.

Purdie connected on 7 of 8 free throws and made 2 of 4 3-point attempts. The sophmore guard also pulled down a team-high 7 rebounds, dished out 3 assists and had 2 steals.

The West Bladen grad nailed a 3-point shot that ignited an early 13-0 run for the Bearcats, then popped in another jump shot during the run.

Purdie bombed in another 3-point basket with 6:39 left in the first half that stretched the Bearcat lead to 28-14. Flagler closed the half with a 16-7 spurt that sliced the Lander lead to 35-30 at halftime.

Purdie sank 4 straight free throws early in the second half to keep the Bearcat lead at 41-33. The 5-9 sophmore hit another free throw then rattled in a long 2-point shot that pushed the Lander lead to 63-52 with 3:54 remaining. Purdie cashed in 2 more free throws at the 1:07 mark to extend the lead to 71-55.

The Bearcats, now 2-3 in the Peach Belt and 5-9 overall, will host Columbus State Saturday at 3:30.
