Dancing and laughter were the order of the evening on Thursday as the soulful sounds of the Holiday Band filled the air at Goldston’s Beach. The Sunset Jams “Alive After Five” concert series is sponsored by the Elizabethtown-White Lake Area Chamber of Commerce and Southeastern Health.

Chamber Executive Director Dawn Maynard estimated there were 350 people in attendance. There was a slight delay due to rain during the concert, but the storm did not dampen the enthusiasm of the crowd. Once the rain ended, the Holiday Band returned the stage and dancers returned to the dance floor.

“With the inclement weather, I felt it was very successful. It was a great way for the locals to come out and show their support. I anticipate the next one to have twice as many people in attendance,” said Maynard.

Town officials were pleased with the concert attendance, as well. White Lake Mayor Goldston Womble said, “It is a good turnout for tonight.”

Both Maynard and Womble noted schools have not dismissed for summer break and many tourists have not yet arrived at the lake. Both expected the attendance for the concert series to increase over the next two concerts.

The Holiday Band performed such songs as Boogie Shoes,  Purple, Rain, the Cupid Shuffle and the Electric Slide. Those in attendance enjoyed line dancing as well as shagging. One couple said they met at White Lake and have been dancing together for almost 60 years. One of the band’s vocalists, Ronnie Farrington, called the couple to the stage and gave them a free Holiday Band CD.

The Sunset Jams “Alive After Five” Concert Series continues on June 15th with Soul on the Beach and on June 29th with North Tower.
