Dalai Lama
There is excitement in the air in Raleigh following the announcement on Friday the Dalai Lama will be visiting the city this fall. According to Raleigh Mayor Nancy MacFarlane, the visit will occur in October but she did not give an exact date.
She said the Dalai Lama will likely spend several days in Raleigh and at least one major event will be held. The proceeds from that event will go to charity, according to WRAL. Mayor MacFarlane also said he will be visiting the schools.
The Dalai Lama is a Nobel Peace Prize winner and is the spiritual leader of the Buddhists, according to Wikipedia. Following a failed coup attempt in 1959, the Dalai Lama has resided in India.
The announcement follows a trip Mayor MacFarlane made to India to invite him to come to Raleigh, according to WRAL. She promoted the city of Raleigh and its diversity among other things during her visit.
