Deaver

Teddy Randal Deaver Jr. became the third man to plead for his part in a series of break-ins in Bladen County from June, 2014 through March.

Deaver, 32, agreed to plead guilty to possession of stolen goods and breaking and entering Dec. 14 in Bladen County Superior Court. He was sentenced by Judge Gale Adams to eight to 19 months in prison and ordered to pay restitution of more than $55,000 to the victims.

Deaver, of Clarkton, was one of seven people charged in four break-ins at various locations. Another man, Phillip Hales, of Bladenboro, is charged with receiving stolen goods. Randal Deaver was the only one charged in each break-in.

Andrew Blake Deaver, who is Randal Deaver’s younger brother, and Justin Blake Pittman had previously agreed to plea deals. Andrew Deaver, of Clarkton, received three consecutive six to 17 month sentences in June on charges of breaking and entering and larceny. Pittman, 24, of Elizabethtown, was given 60 months probation and ordered to pay restitution of about $47,000 earlier this month.

Two other men who were not part of the original arrest notice from the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office also have had their cases resolved in court. Jerry Burney received a suspended sentence in April, court records show. Samuel Dowless Jr. received a deferred prosecution. If Dowless remains out of trouble while on probation, then charges will be removed from his record, according to court records.

The cases of Colby Nealyn Savage, Jeffery L. Hunt and Hales are pending.

Savage, of Elizabethtown, has been charged with eight counts of larceny of a firearm, one count of breaking and entering a motor vehicle, breaking and entering, larceny, and possession of stolen goods.

Hunt, of Lumberton, has been charged with breaking and entering, larceny, possession of stolen goods, two counts of safecracking and one count of possession of a firearm by a felon.

Hales has been charged with possession of stolen goods, receiving stolen goods, and three counts of possession and receiving a stolen vehicle.

According to court statements, the first break-in took place June 27, 2014 when Randall Deaver, Dowless and Burney broke into the home of Samuel Dowless Sr. and stole firearms. The original plan, according to the prosecution, was to steal only one firearm, but the group thought that might look suspicious and decided to take all of the firearms in the house.

The second break-in, according to court statements, occurred Jan. 7 when Savage and the Deavers broke into the home of Savage’s grandfather and stole guns, an ATV, fishing equipment and a golf cart.

On March 9, the Deavers and Pittman broke into the home of Pittman’s grandparents and another person and stole firearms and cash.

The final break-in took place about March 25 when the Deavers and Hunt broke into a home in Bladenboro and took firearms, power tools and other items, a review of the case showed in court.

In the last three break-ins, property was recovered at Hales’ residence, according to court statements.
