ELIZABETHTOWN – Bladen Recreation’s Youth Volleyball program began play Monday night with 8 teams in 3 age divisions seeing action at the Samuel C. Boger Gymnasium on the campus of Elizabethtown Middle School. Three more teams will start their seasons Tuesday night.

Last season was believed to be the first for recreation youth volleyball in Bladen County. Nine teams in 2 age groups competed. Under the leadership of program director Morgan King, the program has expanded to 11 teams competing in 3 age divisions with 125 girls participating compared to 92 last season.

Four games will be played again Tuesday night at Boger Gym that is being used while work is being completed at Recreation’s King Street Gym.

All 4 of Monday night’s games were competitive and 3 of the best 2-of-3 matches went to the 3rd set. Results follow:

8-9 Youth League
Hurricanes 2, Cyclones 1 (21-15, 9-21, 17-15)

10-11 Youth League
Mustangs 2, Huskies 1 (21-12, 14-21, 15-13)
Jaguars 2, Wildcats 0 (21-19, 21-8)

12-14 Youth League
Storm 2, Flyers 1 (7-21, 21-15, 15-12)
