A BladenOnline.com reader recently submitted a picture of Coach Doug Henderson’s East Bladen Cougars. Coach Doug Henderson coached the East Bladen Cougar Football team in the 1970s and went on to coach teams in Shallotte and East Guilford County before his retirement.
From 1972 through 1989, teams Henderson coached compiled a impressive record. East Guilford High School alone had a record of 107-47-3, and one state championship in 1977, all while Henderson was coach.
Henderson passed away on February 4, 2018, but the memories and values he instilled in the players that he coached, still live on.
