Chief Deputy Larry Guyton with the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office said on Thursday afternoon, the sheriff’s office had received a report of two white males attempting to sell insurance in the Owen Hill area of the county.

We dispatched a car but they did not locate the individuals,” said Guyton.

He said the investigation into the incident is ongoing. Anyone with any information regarding the individuals is asked to call the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office at 910-862-6960.

In another incident on Tuesday, two males attempted to go door-to-door on Old Abbottsburg Road claiming they were working with the West Bladen Assisted Living and attempting to sell insurance. Tammy Coleman, a resident care coordinator for the facility said the men were not affiliated with West Bladen Assisted Living. She added the facility does not sell insurance.

Bladenboro Police Chief Chris Hunt said that when someone attempts to sell you something, ask to see their credentials and not just a business card. He said the sales representative should have some type of credentials with them. Hunt also suggested asking for a company telephone number and calling the number to verify the individual’s credentials.

Hunt advised if the person refuses to give you that information, call 911.
