hurricanmatthewtuesGov. Pat McCrory along with state and local Emergency Management officials is urging North Carolina residents to begin make preparations for Hurricane Matthew.

Hurricane Matthew has the potential to have a direct impact on Bladen County. The potential storm impacts could include heady rainfall, flash flooding, flooding of low lying areas, heavy winds, trees blown down, and potential power outages.

Bladen County Schools officials are closely monitoring the storm and will be meeting throughout the week to discuss the storm and its potential impacts, said Bladen County Schools Public Relations Director Valerie Newton.

As of 7 a.m., Hurricane Matthew remained a Category 4 storm and made land fall in Haiti near Les Anglais, according to the National Hurricane Center. As of 8 a.m. the center of Hurricane Matthew was located at 18.4 N, 74.2 W moving north at 9 miles per hour. The maximum sustained winds were 145 miles per hour. 

On Monday afternoon, Gov. Pat McCrory declared a State of Emergency for 66 counties in North Carolina including the Cape Fear region.

Residents are encouraged to pay close to attention to the forecast and to monitor local media outlets for the latest emergency information.
