This first Bladen County Agency Information and Resource Fair, held Saturday, January 17th at the National Guard Armory, was greatly needed and well received. Ann Garrett with the North Carolina Works Career Center of Bladen County was aware of the need to help get resources and information out to the public and organized a plan. Garrett said, “There are a lot of people with a lot of questions on where to find resources in Bladen County.” The fair helped to educate the community about the different resources and agencies available in Bladen County.
Zelea Smith helped register community members attending the fair. Smith said, “We had a good turn out today. We had over 50 people seeking information and resources.” There were around 30 different representatives there to help answer questions about healthcare to job training information.
Education and training information was provided by Bladen Community College, NC Works Career Center, Zara Betterment Corp, and Christian Women’s Job Corps of NC. Affordable Healthcare, Duke Medicine Partners in Caring, and Lower Cape Fear Hospice representatives were at the fair to answer healthcare questions. Bladen Crisis Center, A Shelter Friend, Safe Link, Liberty Tax Services, and Male Mentoring were some other agencies there to help community members get connected with needed resources. Lisa Clark, with Lower Cape Fear Hospice said, “This should be an annual event because getting the information out there is very important. You never know what you are missing. It seems we are so bombarded with information sometimes we miss things that are out there.”Share:
