Merchants in Bladen County said the Christmas shopping season was a good one overall. Stores reported strong sales in November while sales cooled slightly in December.

Ricky Leinwand, owner of Leinwand’s Department Store in Elizabethtown, said, “We’ve been very busy.”

He added November sales were up over last year, but December sales are expected to be down slightly. Leinwand said his store has been very busy since November 1st. He added, that in addition to sales in the store, they also participated in such events as Candy Cane Lane and the Holiday Fair.

“We’re thankful and we’re very pleased with our business,” said Leinwand. He added that they are appreciative of all of their customers both here in Bladen County and across the region. Leinwand said the store is continuing to offer sales through the first of the year.

Mike Suggs, owner of Fishers Mens and Ladies Shop in Elizabethtown, said they, too, were pleased with their sales during the holiday.

“We did well. It came a little later this year,” said Suggs. He said, overall, he is very pleased with the Christmas holiday sales.

Suggs said his store will continue to offer special savings to customers. He said, right now, all winter merchandise is 30 percent off and shoppers can also receive 30 percent off all sale items.
