Bladen County Commissioner, Arthur A. Bullock announced a ceremony to help kick off a new program in the area to feed and educate local children. The new Read and Feed Summer Feeding Van sponsored by Smithfield Foundation, Inc will hold a Ribbon Cutting on July 16 from 4 p.m. until 5 p.m. at the Bladen County Board of Education.

The program “aims to bridge the reading gap by providing children with the resources they may not have access to at home.”

The program’s website says, “Our goal is to help children who aren’t reading at grade level to gain confidence, while providing a comfortable setting in which to learn.”

78% of children who attend a Read and Feed program have improved reading attitude or confidence. And teachers tell us their discipline improves and the students do their homework, according to the website.

More information will be provided as soon as it becomes available.
