Bladen County Hospital will restrict children under age 12 from visiting the hospital beginning Tuesday, March 1, because of the spread of flu and other flu-like diseases, according to a news release from Cape Fear Valley Health.

The policy applies to all of Cape Fear Valley Health’s facilities and the emergency department at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville. Other Cape Fear Valley Health facilities include Highsmith-Rainey Specialty Hospital, Cape Fear Valley Rehabilitation Center, Behavioral Health Care, Hoke Hospital, Betsy Johnson Hospital and Central Harnett Hospital.

People experiencing flu-like symptoms, such as fever, cough, sore throat and runny nose, are urged not to visit friends and family at the hospitals, the news release said. Instead, they should stay home and call their primary care physician for treatment guidance.

Cape Fear Valley Health will revisit the visitation policy when flu numbers decrease.
