CLOSINGS:
NC 131
NC 131 remains closed south of Bladenboro. The closure location has moved to 0.99 miles north of the Columbus County Line or 1.33 miles south of Hogwallow Road. This closure will remain in effect through the end of the week. A signed detour is in effect to use Arthur Collier Road in Columbus County and NC 410.
ELWELL FERRY:
Elwell Ferry is operating. We have been observing flows and decided that the flow velocity versus river stage has changed as a result of the weir change at the downstream lock and dam (new dam has higher friction coefficient and therefore could be creating higher stages and/or lower velocities at a given stage). In light of this, we are going to increase the operating threshold to 17.5’ (7.5 indicated on the ‘tree’ at the ferry) on a trial basis to determine what the revised threshold should be.
