The following is an update on road closures, openings and repairs per Kenneth Clark with the NC Department of Transportation.
An update of road openings / closings is as follows:
OPENINGS:
NC 242 S. of Lula Long Road
NC 242 is now open south of Lula Long Road; however, the road still remains closed at two other locations (see below). The existing detour will remain in effect as the existing signed detour remains the shortest route for thru traffic on NC 242. The recent opening will permit access to Dowd Dairy Road to/from the Ammon area.
Twisted Hickory Road
Twisted Hickory Road is anticipated to open just before dark this evening.
CLOSINGS:
NC 242 north of Johnsontown Road
NC 242 remains closed north of Johnstown Road. A signed detour is in effect to use Johnsontown Road to Jack Richardson Road to Old Fayetteville Road. The anticipated completion of work at this location is March 31.
NC 242 south of Sweet Home Church Road
NC 242 remains closed south of Sweet Home Church Road at the Jones Lake Overflow. A signed detour is in effect to use US 701 and Sweet Home Church Road. The anticipated completion of work on this location February 28.
Cromartie Road
Cromartie Road remains closed south of NC 87. Work is progressing nicely with an anticipated completion on this location by February 28.
Owen Hill Road
Owen Hill Road remains closed west of NC 41 / NC 87 Bus. The site repairs are under contract for a new double reinforced box culvert. Anticipated completion is May.
ELWELL FERRY:
Elwell Ferry is operating
OTHER:
Chickenfoot Road
Chickenfoot Road in Cumberland County is now open. (This location is just across the county line into Cumberland County but is used heavily by Bladen residents).
