Motorists in the town of Clarkton may have found travel around town a little tricky this week.

NC Department of Transportation crews were busy around the town of Clarkton this week. NC DOT was hard at work Thursday working on the roadway of West North Railroad Street. Dirt was being packed on the section of unpaved roadway between Latham Street and Elm Street in preparation for paving to begin.

According to an agreement between NC DOT and the town of Clarkton, the paving is a courtesy for allowing the closing of the railroad crossing at Elm  Street. According to the agreement, the work is to be performed at no cost to the town or CSX.

The agreement also calls for the paving of West North Railroad Street between Latham Street and North College Street and paving of West South Railroad Street from the Rescue Building to North Clark Street.

The town of Clarkton was also at work repairing a water line on North College Street just past the Clarkton School of Discovery. This section of road is closed to through traffic and is expected to re-open Friday.
