A roaring twenties concert is coming to the Carolina Civic Center in Lumberton on February 18 at 7 p.m. The concert will celebrate the return of the Civic Center’s organ known affectionately as “Mighty Morton.”

Tickets are $10 for the public and can be purchased at the door. Students are admitted free.

The pipe organ is one of about 100 such organs left in existence. Mighty Morton is a pipe organ and has been undergoing a restoration at the hands of Mac Abernathy and Allen Lloyd of the Peidmont Organ Society. With the restoration work completed, Mighty Morton has returned to its Civic Center Home.

The concert will be performed by master musician Mark Andersen and will feature a “Roaring Twenties” theme filled with ragtime, jazz and early Broadway selections such as George Gershwin and Cole Porter. Special guest vocalist on several numbers will be Laura Britt Morgan, who resides in Pinehurst and once was a regular performer on the theater’s stage. Another special moment in the evening will be the screening of the Charlie Chaplin 1914 short silent film, “Laughing Gas,” with musical accompaniment by Mr. Andersen of his original score.
