RALEIGH — Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the conviction of Bradley McMillian, of 11163 Rennert Road, Shannon; he was charged and convicted with 44 counts each of obtaining property by false pretense and embezzlement.
Department of Insurance criminal investigators accused McMillian of receiving $400,000 from consumers for mobile homes that were never delivered. Investigators alleged McMillian defrauded 44 victims in Robeson County and the surrounding area.
McMillian entered a plea of guilty for each count on Aug. 22, 2017. McMillian was ordered to repay the full $400,000 in restitution to all the victims and sentenced to a minimum of 42 months active prison sentence with a maximum of 60 months.
There are still pending charges on the wife and business partner of McMillian that have yet to reach disposition.
“According to the FBI, insurance fraud costs the average family between $400 and $700 per year in the form of increased premiums,” said Commissioner Causey. “Consumer protection is my number one priority and I will continue to fight insurance fraud with your help.”
