Helicopter on the hunt for armed suspects

Update as of Wednesday, January 24th at 9 a.m.: Sheriff McVicker confirmed on Wednesday, January 24th, 2018 the hunt for the Robeson County shooting suspects is still underway. The suspects are accused of robbing a bank in Robeson County, shooting at law enforcement and then fleeing from the scene. Law enforcement say there are as many as four suspects.

McVicker did clarify none of the suspects have been apprehended in Robeson or Columbus Counties as we first reported Tuesday evening and there are as many as four suspects. Law enforcement officers are still on the search in Columbus and Robeson Counties.

There have been reports by officials of three suspects shooting at law enforcement in Robeson County. As of 5:15 pm on Tuesday, January 23rd, 2018 two of the suspects are on the run in the Columbus County area, according to Bladen County Sheriff Jim McVicker. One of the three suspects has been apprehended.

Three people reportedly shot at a Robeson County Law Enforcement Officer on Monday afternoon. Two of the suspects in the shooting ran, McVicker said, and proceeded to Bill Hooks Road in Columbus County. The Robeson County officer involved in the shooting is unharmed McVicker reported.

Law enforcement still on the scene in Robeson County at 6:30 p.m.

“Everybody is working together,” McVicker said, “no one has been harmed.” Robeson County, Bladen County, Columbus County Law Enforcement Officers and the North Carolina Highway Patrol are on the hunt for the two suspects.

A helicopter was dispatched in Robeson County and another has currently been spotted in between Bladen and Columbus Counties to help in the capture of the armed suspects according to witnesses.

We will update you on the progress of the situation as soon as information is made available.

Update at 9:50 p.m. Tuesday evening: According to Major Larry Guyton with Bladen County Sheriff’s Office the hunt is still on in Columbus County as of 9:50 p.m. for two suspects involved in the shooting.
