West Bladen High School LogoROWLAND – Aterria Quick walloped a 2-run home run that snapped a 2-2 tie and propelled South Robeson to a 7-2 softball victory over West Bladen Monday in the consolation bracket of the Robeson County Slugfest.

After two scoreless innings, junior Kathryn Schultz led off the Lady Knight third inning with a single to right and sprinted to second base when the ball eluded the Lady Mustang rightfielder.

Scuultz then stole third base and dashed home on freshman Conner Brisson’s ground ball to put West in front 1-0.

The Lady Mustangs answered with 2 runs in the bottom of the third. Quick drilled a double to right-centerfield and scampered home on Destiny Strickland’s single. Strickland took second on the throw to the plate and scored on pitcher Harmony Oxendine’s single.

West Bladen tied the score 2-2 in the top of the fourth. Junior Logan Autry reached base on an infield hit, and junior Jenna Dove dropped a single into left-centerfield. After both runners advanced on a double steal, Schultz beat out an infield hit that brought home Autry with the tying run.

Destiny Purdie blooped a single to rightfield to begin the South Robeson fourth, and one out later Quick broke the tie with a drive over the left-centerfield fence.

South Robeson tacked on three more runs in the sixth inning on four hits and an error. Halei Charvis’ triple and Strickland’s double and singles by Nakala Brooks and Desaree Dunham highlighted the inning.

The Lady Knights collected ten hits in the game and left nine runners on base. West Bladen stranded 2 runners on base in the each of the third, fourth and fifth innings.

Schultz batted 3-3 with a run batted in and a run scored to lead the West hitters. Junior Kassidy Anderson hammered a seventh inning double to deep right and finished 2-4 at the plate.

Juniors Alanna Ludlum, Laikyn Pait, Autry and Dove and freshman Carley Dawson all cracked one hit each for the Lady Knights. Brisson had an rbi, and Autry scored a run.

Junior Sophia Singletary went the distance in the circle for the Lady Knights, striking out two and walking two.

Chavis batted 3-4 with a triple to lead the 12-hit South Robeson attack. Strickland finished 3-4 at the plate, and Quick was 2-3 with the double and the home run. Oxendine pitched the complete-game victory, striking out four with no walks.

West Bladen, now 4-6, will return to Four County Conference play Tuesday, April 5 when they host Midway at 6 p.m.
