West Bladen exploded for ten runs in the first inning and rolled to a 24-4 victory over St. Pauls Saturday night in the opening round of the Robeson County Slugfest Softball Tournament at St. Pauls.

Coach Pam Stephens’ Lady Knights, the top seed in the Slugfest, improved to 5-3 and will play Hoke County (10-2) in the Slugfest semi-finals Monday at 7 p.m.

Winning pitcher Nicole Wyatt slammed a double, and sophomore Laikyn Pait hammered a triple to highlight the ten-run first.

Sophomore Kassidy Anderson, senior Amber Bills, sophomore Sophia Singletary and senior Morgan Sweeney also cracked hits in the inning. The Lady Knights also capitalized on 3 errors, 2 walks and 4 passed balls.

West Bladen upped the count to 16-0 in the second and led 24-1 after four innings.

Wyatt walloped a triple in the 5-run third and finished 4-5 at the plate with a double, a triple and 5 runs-batted-in. Pait blasted a triple in the Lady Knights’ six-run  second inning and batted 3-5 with 2 triples and 4 rbi’s.

Bills knocked in 4 runs with a 2-4 game at the plate. Sweeney also batted 2-4 and drove in 2 runs. Anderson drove in a run and was 2-4 at the plate.

Singletary smacked a 2-run single, and senior Allison Thompson drove in 2 runs with a single. Sophomores Kathryn Schultz and Jenna Dove added one hit each to the 17-hit Lady Knight attack.

Wyatt struck out 7 in her 5 innings in the circle, walked 2 and allowed 3 hits.
