Municipal and County governments are always looking for various ways to help keep citizens informed about important events and emergencies taking place in their communities. The town of Elizabethtown has joined Code Red and Police Chief Tony Parrish addressed the Elizabethtown Rotary Club regarding the new system.

According to Chief Parrish, the Code Red alert system allows town officials to notify residents on a specific street regarding a water leak or town staff can send such items as the town’s newsletter to all the residents.

“It is an early notification system so if there is something going in town say there is a boil water advisory, an active shooter, a missing person, a missing child or a storm is coming and we need to notify people where hurricane evacuation centers are or anything along those lines, it (Code Red) is way to get that information out,” said Parrish.

Residents have the option to receiving their Code Red notifications through email, text messages or landline telephone calls. Chief Parrish said signing up to receive the notifications is simple. If you are a resident of the town of Elizabethtown, go to elizabethtownnc.org, click on the Code Red logo and simply complete the requested information.

If you are not a resident of Elizabethtown, Bladen County also offers Code Red for those who reside in the county, said Chief Parrish.
