The Elizabethtown Rotary Club learned about Cycle NC, and other sports events in North Carolina, on Wednesday during their luncheon meeting at Cape Fear Vineyard and Winery. Chip Hofler, with NC Amateur Sports, presented the program to the group.

Hofler told the group there are three cycling events which take place in North Carolina, and a fourth event being the Powerade State Games. The three cycling events include the Mountain Ride, which took place early Spring in Tryon, NC, the Mountains to Coast Ride, which will take place September 29 through October 6, and the final ride is the Coastal Ride, which is planned for April 26-28, 2019 in Edenton.

The Mountains to Coast Ride is in its 20th year, according to Hofler. The ride generally attracts more than 1,000 riders from 40 states.

Hofler said, this year, the race will begin in Black Mountain on September 29, and end on October 6 at Oak Island. The route will pass through the towns of Black Mountain, Mooresville, Archdale, Southern Pines, Dunn, Elizabethtown, and end at Oak Island.

Elizabethtown will be an overnight stop for the riders on Friday, October 5. The riders will have time to explore the town and its shops and restaurants during their stay. The town was featured in a video promoting the ride, which was shown to the Rotarians by Hofler.

The riders are expected to leave on Saturday morning, October 6, for the final leg of their journey to Oak Island.
