Rotarian Michael Leinwand addressed the Elizabethtown Rotary Club at their weekly luncheon meeting and discussed the updating of the town of Elizabethtown’s zoning ordinances. He said he is currently serving on the committee which is tasked with reviewing and updating the ordinances.

He said the committee has been reviewing the different zoning districts in the town and ensuring they are consistent with today’s uses and making the zoning ordinances more business friendly.

Leinwand said the committee plans to present the rough draft of the new ordnances to the planning board soon and the planning board will then make its recommendation to the town council. He estimated the updated ordinances will not be final for another year.

He said the zoning ordinances are typically updated every ten years and they can always be amended as needed.

When asked what the most significant changes to the ordinances were, Leinwand said it was the updating of the sign ordinance. He said the proposed sign ordinance is more business friendly and provides for allowing businesses to utilize banners for advertising.
