The Elizabethtown Rotary Club held their 2nd annual Rotary International Cup Golf Tournament on Thursday. Proceeds from the well attended event go to support scholarships to benefit Bladen County students.

The teams were divided into two flights. The winning team for the first flight was Bobby Davis, Jimmy Davis, Bobby Rabon and Mike White. The winning team also donated back their winnings. The second-place team in the first flight was Eric Nance, Mark Mendell,  Allen Prater, and Daren Wheeless.

The winning team in the second flight was Lumberton Chevrolet consisting of Jimmy Cook, Kenny Stanley, Mac Porter and Pam Davis. The second place winner was Team Nisan consisting of Ronnie Russ, Ricky Walters, Larry Mitchell and Gary Williamson.

There were also other prizes awarded. Byron Melvin won for the longest shot and Jimmy Davis won for the shot closest to the pin. Bob Rauch won the 50-50 drawing and donated a portion of the money back to the Elizabethtown Rotary Club.  Chris Holland won a bottle of Winners Circle Blueberry Cider. There was also an opportunity to win two cars by scoring a hole-in one on two different holes. Unfortunately, no one earned a hole-in-one.

Rotarian Michael Leinwand said he wanted to thank the many sponsors who helped to make the event a success. Team sponsors for the event included, Melvin’s, who provided lunch; Farm Bureau; Melton’s Restaurant; Nissan of Clinton: Win a Car with a Hole-In-One; Cape Fear Valley – Bladen Healthcare; SPT Speciality Products and Star Telephone. There were many other hole sponsors and in-kind sponsors.

The Elizabethtown Rotary Club would also like to thank Melvin’s for providing food for volunteers and players and America’s Hole-In-One and  Nissan of Clinton for providing an opportunity for two lucky players to win a car if they score a hole-in-one. Unfortunately, no one scored a hole-in-one on Thursday.

Plans are under way for next year’s tournament.
