Sandhills Behavioral Services, Inc. held a grand opening celebration and ribbon cutting on Tuesday afternoon. The center is located at 119 Courthouse Drive, Elizabethtown.

Robert Smith, who owns Sandhills Behavioral Center, said, “This (the grand opening) means a lot. I was born and raised in Laurinburg and years ago a gentleman from Clarkton brought me here and taught me to drive.”

Smith said he and his staff will be able to touch and change lives through the center.  The center provides DWI services in English and Spanish, an intensive outpatient substance abuse program, after school programs, drug testing, a sex offender program, and more. Smith said the center also provides regular individual mental health counseling for the individual, family and in  groups.

Smith also said the staff also conducts a 20-hour per week program working with individuals four hours per day on such things as social skills, coping skills and addressing different concerns the client may have.

Elizabethtown-White Lake Area Chamber of Commerce President Maurice Williams said, “Any time a new business opens, it makes you feel good. It is a benefit to the community.”
