Sayaun Dent Leads Sandhills to 3 Basketball Victories

West Bladen grad Sayaun Dent poured in 61 points and grabbed 22 rebounds last week to lead the undefeated Sandhills Community College Flyers to a trio of basketball victories.

Wednesday night Dent fired in 25 points and corralled 6 rebounds to lead Sandhills to a 90-73 victory over Lenoir Community College. The Flyers closed the game with a 30-13 blitz to seize the victory.

Friday night in Sandhills’ own Chatlee Marine Classic, Dent lit up the scoreboard with 21 points, snatched 6 rebounds and dished out 6 assists in a 97-74 victory over Shooting for Greatness Academy from Raleigh. The Elizabethtown native ignited a 25-2 closing run that broke open a 72-70 game with an assist for a lay-up then drilled in a 3-point bomb.

Saturday in another Chatlee Marine Classic game, Dent posted a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds that led the Flyers to a 106-74 rout of Dabney S. Lancaster (VA).

The Flyers have won their first 4 games, and Dent has averaged 22.3 points, 9.8 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.8 steals per game in those 4 wins.

Sandhills will host unbeaten Guilford Tech on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
