PINEHURST – West Bladen grad Sayaun Dent fired in 18 points Saturday to lead Sandhills Community College to a 108-92 victory over Anne Arundel Community College (MD) in the Mid-Atlantic District Championship Game.
Dent filled up the stat sheet with 6 rebounds, 4 blocked shots, 3 assists and 2 steals as the Flyers raised their record to 31-2 and qualified for a berth in the NJCAA Division III National Tournament in Rochester, MN that begins March 11.
The Flyers, the top-ranked team in the NJCAA Division III rankings, finished fifth in the national tourney last season. Other top performers from area schools for the Flyers Saturday included Whiteville’s Cameron Richardson with 13 points and 9 rebounds and Fairmont’s Corey Addison with 12 points and 8 assists.
Dent, the Region 10 player of the year, leads the Flyers in scoring (17.7 points) and rebounding (7.9).
