ROCHESTER, MN – West Bladen grad Sayaun Dent posted a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds to lead Sandhills Community College to 65-55 victory over Herkimer Community College (NY) Thursday in the NJCAA Division III National Tournament.
Sandhills advances to a semi-final game at 11 a.m. Friday against Rochester Tech. A win Friday morning will advance the Flyers to a 6 p.m. national championship game. The tournament has been shortened due to the Coronavirus to finish Friday night.
The Flyers trailed Herkimer 46-39 with 9 minutes left when Dent’s follow shot ignited a Sandhills rally. Dent sank 2 free throws to tie the game 46-46. A Dent 3-point play put the Flyers ahead to stay at 51-48.
Herkimer, the defending national champion, was the team that defeated Sandhills in the opening round last season.
