Folks from all over Bladen County and members of the Bladen Baptist Association gathered at Dublin First Baptist Church to say farewell to Rev. Bruce and Wendy Cannon.

The afternoon was bittersweet as Bruce and Wendy Cannon spoke about their 27 years in Bladen County first as a pastor and then as Director of Mission for the Bladen Baptist Association.

Rev. Cameron McGill said “God’s call is never changing but like any good book it has different chapters.

We know God has got another chapter not only for Bruce and Wendy but also for the Bladen Baptist Association.”

McGill said that Bruce and Wendy are excited about their new church –Bear Creek near Asheville.

He added that a search committee is currently working to find the person who will take over the reigns of the Bladen Baptist Association.
“We’re not trying to fill his shoes but we are trying to find someone who can carry out the mission and tie the forty churches (in Bladen County) together to do kingdom work.”

The afternoon reception included a social and a presentation from the Bladen Baptist Association.

Rev. Kincey Barrow presented the Cannons with a plaque acknowledging their 27 years of service to Bladen County and the Bladen Baptist Association.

Cannon who was moved by the presentation said that when he and Wendy arrived in Bladen County 27 years ago, they had no intention of leaving. He added that the couple looks forward to hearing some really good things about Bladen County in the future.

Bruce Cannon told those gathered that when the couple arrived 27 years ago, the streets were safer and drugs were not the problem.

Cannon encouraged the membership, “Go and do great things for Him.”
