NC SBIThe State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) announced Monday that an investigation continues of the reopened 1976 Josephine and Aileen Davis murders in Bladen County and will not close “until all viable leads have been exhausted.”

The SBI reopened the case in February, 2013 at the request of District Attorney Jon David when evidence used to convict Joseph Sledge for the homicides was unanimously determined by the North Carolina Innocence Commission to be questionable and warranted a judicial review.
The SBI has since worked closely with District Attorney Jon David, the Innocence Commission and the North Carolina Center of Actual Innocence to pursue the new information uncovered which has lead to the “actual innocence” of Sledge Friday, January 24, 2015.
The SBI is continuing this investigation at the request of District Attorney David.
