The Bladen County Sheriff’s Office has been working on a missing person case for Judith Hyder since Dec 7, 2015 and on Tuesday, March 8, 2016 the search for the 53 year old continues.

Lieutenant Morgan Johnson with the Bladen County Sheriff’s Department said Bladen County Emergency Services, six to seven K-9 officers, officials from Brunswick, New Hanover and surrounding areas, along with volunteers have come out to help in the ground search today.

Johnson said, “Her last phone ping was around the 5,000 block of Old Fayetteville Road, we have narrowed it down to around 400 meters. What we are doing today is coming out today to find her phone, and/or Ms. Hyder.”

The area has been flown over to look for a grave or evidence of Ms. Hyde according to Johnson, however, nothing has been found. The ground search he said is a lot more methodical and they hope to find more evidence by doing the search on foot.

“We are shooting more towards a homicide investigation than a missing person’s report due to we haven’t find her yet. Without her reaching out to family, without her getting her medications refilled, or seeing a doctor, this is why we are leaning more towards homicide.” Johnson said.

There has not been any evidence of a homicide at this point. Johnson did say they do have some people of interest.

The search party met at Ammon Fire Department at 13084 NC Hwy 242 North before the ground search began. Hyder was last seen in the vicinity the search party will be looking today according to Johnson.

Judith Hyder is from Oliver Lane in Garland. She is 5’5″ tall weighing 200 pounds with hazel eyes and dark brown hair. Hyder was last seen on December 7th by her room mate. She was reported missing on December 9th, 2015. Her car was found abandoned a couple of miles from where she had been staying.
